When shooting athletic events, you can sometimes lose the “art” in the act of photography. Trying so hard to catch everything, you can often overlook the real shot. I myself get caught up in the big play, or the celebration shot after the big play. However, it’s those subtle shots that make your eyes do some work… that actually tell a story. The shots that only you saw from your particular vantage point, at the perfect angle, with the perfect subject. That happened on this photo. Shawn Russ, walked back across the field just as I arrived on the visitors side. I looked up and the Dunbar mascot was directly behind him… because there wasn’t a play going on, I didn’t even have my camera up and ready. But I’m a pro… I quickly adjusted and ran off about 20 shots to make sure I had this one. Now, had I been a super pro, I would’ve remembered to run back over to that side when it started raining, and attempted the same exact shot with the rain drops coming down… now that would’ve been… dang.
